Liliana Bloch Gallery, Dallas, TX
DRCW / Meltdown2 is a new wallpaper installation depicting the gradual meltdown of a dining room chair. The chair motif is based on an actual chair that has been in my family for several generations. Like photographs in which it appears, the chair itself is a saved artifact and index to the past. DRCW / Meltdown2 speaks to the erosion of personal, societal, and political traditions. The chair itself is hung high on the wall above the bathroom sink. My art making constitutes a career-long investigation into the ontology of photography. Freely moving between photography, sculpture, and installation, my projects are based on narratives about current or past events, and often include familiar objects from my home or studio, such as chairs, tables, clothing, and snapshots. All of my projects constitute an ongoing exploration of photographic indexicality, the archive, and the frame. |
