"La Comparsa" is a projected iMovie installation. Source materials are video footage of my 2002 outdoor installation of the same title at the Connemara Spring Sculpture Show in Allen, TX, and a tape recording of the piano solo "La Comparsa" written by Ernesto Lecuona and played by my mother. "La Comparsa" means "Carnival Procession". The piece begins with the far away approach of the procession; the excitement of the parade builds and then slowly recedes as the faint notes gradually fade into the distance. Images on fabric are cropped faces of my grandmother, my mother, and me.
