"Whipped Color" was one of two unique installation pieces that I created for the group exhibition "Side Affect" at Liliana Bloch Gallery in Dallas, TX. The exhibition title alluded to the U.S Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) evolving regulatory practices since its inception in 1892. Creamy white cast plaster replicas of the negative spaces of whipped cream cartons speak to my mother's preference for "real whipped cream" at special holiday dinners. Dipped in colored tempera and arranged atop the exhibition catalog "Color Chart" (MoMA 2010) my sculptures reveal a shared sensibility with the artists who were part of that exhibition, while at the same time bringing to mind contamination due to mass food processing. Book pages were turned weekly. |
